We had 7 newborn babies transferred here to our neonatal intensive care unit. A couple have already been released. There is one baby whose parents are missing and the hospital has not been able to locate them.

I live in NC so I wasn't hit by the hurricanes. The only thing amiss here is the gas. Lines out to the road waiting for it. Then having to see it drip into the tank. Most gas stations have a limit of 30 bucks but my friend found a place to fill his car and it cost him 92 bucks. A lot of gas stations have no gas at all. The highest price I have seen is 6 bucks a gallon and the lowest 3.50 a gallon. Several kids have taken to the bus and riding bikes to school. Of course the ordeal of the people on the gulf coast makes the gas problem trivial. A lot of them have been transported here and I have seen some of them first hand. Just seeing all these people with nothing and no where to go makes me want to cry. I am helping as much as I can but it still feels like I can't do enough.

I haven't been directly affected by the Hurrican, and luckly none of my family were there at the time. I do have a relative in Alabama who's a doctor, and you wouldn't imagine how many people she has to help after the hurrican hit. If any of you read the New York Times, there was an article in there about what Barbara Bush had to say.

I hope everything will be fine with the rest of your family J. Just dont give up hope. You guys really have a lot of troubles since 1999. First the eartquake (or tornado, I'm not sure), then 9/11 and now this...

Despite all the bad stuff you read and hear in the media it is awesome to see how people have gone the extra mile to help those people in need. My daughter has a student in class who is living here indefinitely. The High School has several kids now playing on their football team who came from Mississippi.
We did a neat thing this weekend, we adopted a puppy who was evacuated to our local humane society from New Orleans. He is very cute and is going to get very big!
When we took him to the vet we met a lady who came here from New Orleans with her big dog. The Vet boarded him for free for them for a couple of weeks. She and her family had just moved to New Orleans from Seattle. She couldn't say enough about how well she had been treated by everyone in our area. She had never been here and knew no one when she first came here.
It is good to see positive things happening!!!
