How many of you have been directly affected by Hurricane Katrina? Feel free to talk about your experience.
We experienced wind upwards of 50 to 60 miles an hour. Many of our neighbors had trees fall on their homes. I woke up Tuesday morning feeling truly blessed. The eyewall passed about 30 or 40 miles to the west of where I live. Tuesday morning I still had a home and power.
My company is gathering non-perishable items to send to the refugees. We are also raising funds to help. Many of my kids' friends now have relatives living with them because they have nothing to go back to. Our schools are enrolling kids of those relatives with minimum requirements. They are giving them free meals and we as a community are putting together necessities for these people. All of our hotels and many of our public buildings are packed to capacity with refugees.
Many of you guys are still very young and cannot give money to the relief effort. Take the time to find a worthy relief group and volunteer some of your time. There is no greater reward in life than helping others who are in dire need!!! Remember, you may need the favor returned some day!

Red Cross and the Salvation Army have been on my campus the past few days. They're supposed to be there all week next week too and I plan on donating some clothes, food, and money.
I have a friend that goes to Tulane in New Orleans and I haven't heard from her so I hope she's okay, I'm sure her dad would've called me if something had happened. I'm gonna call her dad tomorrow.

i have been affected by the Hurricane like got the 100 miles per hr winds trees broke off power lines down. Power poles down. I didnt have power for a week and i finally got it back yesterday. But u have to boil ur water. Cook if u have a gas stove ur lucky or get a cooker that runs on gas. Speaking of gas the lines for gas OMG are like a mile long or longer. U have to have ice and u have to leave ur windows up at nite and i was scaird to because there have been shootings and everything. A person shot his own sister in the head for a bag of ice.And people were shooting and fightiing over gas. It is horrible but no damge to my house i am thankful for that att least we didnt get it bad as New orleans did. I dont know if im going back to school tuesday but i will find out tonight.
