In Touch With Julian McMahon
Meet Nip/Tuck's hottest doc!
He was born with a face that his Nip/Tuck patients would pay money for,
but Julian McMahon says being handsome has its price. "A lot of people just
think you're all looks and zero intelligence," he admits. But Julian has benefited
from being good-looking. While studying law at the University of Sydney, the
son of a former Australian prime minister was offered the chance to appear in a
commercial. Modeling work followed, as did acting opportunities, and, eventually,
a three-year stint on Charmed.
Though he's since won over critics and viewers as plastic surgeon Christian Troy,
Julian, 35, most enjoys playing father to Madison, 4, his daughter with ex-wife --
and former Bruce Willis flame -- Brooke Burns(he had also previously been married
to singer/actress Dannii Minogue). Says Julian,"With Madison, I feel like I was given
a blessing."
You were married to North Shore's Brooke Burns, what happened?
We had our time together, and it was no longer about us. But we have
Madison, this beautiful little girl, to show for our time together. And that
makes up for anything bad we might have gone through.
Were you upset when you found out that she was dating Bruce?
I think I was putting all my energy into Nip/Tuck. We share a
responsibility of raising a daughter, but when it comes to dating, we
try not to get too involved with each other's personal business.
Are you squeamish at the sight of blood?
I freak out when it comes to the sight of blood -- even fake blood!
I'm a real wimp! I guess I'm just a better actor than anyone ever imagined.
How did you get through your first TV operation?
It was a butt implant, which I thought would be a breeze. But as soon as I started
pressing down on the prosthetic skin and the tube in the knife started getting
oozing out blood, I started getting nauseous. I just took a deep breath and kept
on cutting.
Has Madison seen you in Nip/Tuck?
I have shown her some little snippets. But, she loves for me to watch her favorite
shows. I think I've seen Lady and the Tramp close to 60 times. And the funny
thing is, she'll run off to play and I'm the one who ends up watching it!
Would you give marriage another try?
I try to never say never, but it's not on top of my list. You never know, though.
You could pick up the papers next week and read that I went for it again.
I'm flaky that way!
