Colts Historic Game Facts
HOW THE GAME WAS WON Takeaways. Four of them set up Colts' touchdown drives of 34, 35, 14 and 19 yards. They were the guts of a 45-3 comeback that lifted the home team out of a 17-0 hole, keeping it the NFL's lone unbeaten team (6-0).
MAIN MEN Linebacker Cato June had two interceptions to increase his season total to five, including four in the past two games. Running back Edgerrin James rushed 23 times for 143 yards and three touchdowns.
OUCH The play of the game was June's first interception. During the return, linebacker David Thornton's big block left St. Louis quarterback Marc Bulger with a sprained throwing shoulder and knocked him out of the game. The turnaround was immediate and permanent.
LOUDEST, PROUDEST MOMENT Colts quarterback Peyton Manning's 6-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Marvin Harrison, who beat cornerback Travis Fisher on a fade route. It was the 86th touchdown connection for Manning and Harrison, an NFL record. There was only one problem: Who should keep the ball? Manning walked off with it after suggesting they "split" the souvenir.
HISTORICAL FACT The last time the Colts were 6-0 is the only time. Johnny Unitas was under center and defensive tackle Art Donovan was cracking heads, not jokes. It was 1958, and the Colts went on to win the NFL championship.
COMING ATTRACTION The league's lone unbeaten team vs. its lone winless team. Big on small. Houston (0-5) is no fluke. It ranks 29th in total defense and 32nd in total offense, and injuries are slicing deep

Up next is a trip to Houston on Sunday, where the 0-5 Texans are 141/2-point underdogs. Barring an upset of Buster Douglas-type proportions, the Colts can become just the 21st team since 1970 to open a season with seven consecutive victories. Ten of the previous 20 advanced to the Super Bowl. Seven won it. But that's getting ahead of the team's immediate concern. Coach Tony Dungy routinely reminds players that while a team can play itself out of contention in September and October, those months only lay the groundwork for title runs. "October kind of sets the stage,'' he said Tuesday afternoon. "November and December is when you have to be playing your best. You still want to improve.'' Dating to last year, the Colts have won 14 of their past 15 regular-season games. The only misstep was self-induced, a 33-14 loss in the 2004 finale at Denver when, with nothing on the line, Dungy rested the majority of his regulars. "That's as good a stretch as I've been around,'' Dungy said. Ever the perfectionist, Dungy has ample ammunition to keep his players from getting full of themselves. Against the Rams, a Colts defense that had allowed a total of 29 points in the first five games yielded 17 in the first 12 minutes. It gave up big plays on the ground and through the air. Rather than allow St. Louis' 17-0 lead to mushroom into a prime-time embarrassment, the Colts gathered themselves. The defense provided the momentum shift with linebacker Cato June's second-quarter interception, and the offense cashed in. By game's end, the defense had four takeaways, which the offense turned into 28 points. That type of complementary football, more than the 6-0 record, is what pleases Dungy. "It means we're playing pretty good football,'' he said. "You don't win six games accidentally in the NFL. It's tough to get four-, five-, six-game winning streaks, so the fact we've started off well is a good sign.'' Defensive tackle Corey Simon was part of a Philadelphia team that opened last season 7-0. The Eagles used that solid start to reach Super Bowl XXXIX, where they fell to New England 24-21. Simon is convinced the manner with which the Colts extended their winning streak will prove beneficial in the long run. "A win like this builds character as a team, and I think that will carry us a long way down the road this season,'' he said after Monday night's game. "This really tested our young guys. They could have folded. They didn't. They came in, accounted for themselves at halftime and went out and got better.'' Now, the Colts must come back to work today intent on building on their perfect start, not resting on it. "You always look ahead,'' Dungy said, pointing to Sunday's trip to Houston. "We can't worry about records, not worry about what people think, what the point spread (is), any of that.''
